Issue brief

End Seasonal Clock Changes

Should America stop changing clocks twice a year?

Our position

End twice-yearly clock changes. Prefer permanent standard time on circadian and health grounds, while publishing the tradeoffs against evening daylight preferences and geographic effects.

Why it matters

Low support for the current system is clear. The replacement choice deserves an evidence review, not annual ritual disruption.

Evidence

National surveys show very low support for seasonal changes, with a split between permanent daylight and permanent standard time. Sleep-medicine guidance favors permanent standard time. Low support for changing clocks does not prove agreement on the replacement.

Strongest objection

Business coordination and winter sunrise concerns are legitimate. Implementation should include geographic assessment and a clear federal–state authority path.
