Issue brief
Universal Healthcare Floor
How should America guarantee basic healthcare without eliminating choice?
Our position
Establish a universal coverage floor—primary care, prevention, emergency stabilization, essential medicines, maternity care, mental healthcare, and catastrophic protection—delivered through plural providers with portable coverage and independent appeals.
Why it matters
Coverage access is a public competence problem. Single-payer absolutism and pure market residualism both fail millions. A floor with choice protects liberty while ending medical bankruptcy as a governing outcome.
Evidence
National surveys show broad support for government ensuring coverage, while support for a single national government system remains far lower. Design must separate the coverage objective from any one financing model.
Strongest objection
Critics warn of new bureaucracy and cost growth. US Populists requires published cost ranges, workforce capacity analysis, fraud controls, privacy rules, and sunset performance reviews—the same scrutiny applied to private monopolies.
